In my 20 years of coaching athletes, if there is one thing that contributes to success, it is persistence, and yet, I have so often seen a parent, for example, shelter and protect their child from setbacks.
I see it in small things, like a child struggling to put on his swim goggles or cap, and a parent immediately comes to the rescue.
But when we are protected from every potential obstacle or trial, it prevents us from learning.
Instead, when we are allowed a controlled amount of frustration, when we are allowed to make mistakes, deal with, defeat and even overcome problems…we grow.
So rather than viewing obstacles as a stumbling block, view them as opportunities, as an essential ingredient to success!
